Energy Efficiency
“Energy efficiency is a great first step when it comes to considering a more sustainable future for your home or business. By reducing your energy consumption, you help to lower greenhouse gas emissions, preserve resources, and may even save money in the process,” said Breanna Kelly, Program Manager II, Energy Efficiency at Liberty.
Not sure where to start? Here are some easy, no-cost tips to help you save energy:
- Turn off lights and appliances when not in use. Don’t forget your computer.
- Use your high energy-use appliances like dishwasher, clothes washer/dryer, and oven as late in the evening as possible.
- Set your water heater to 120°F.
- Vacuum your refrigerator coils, underneath and in the back. They need air space to work efficiently and not draw as much power when dirty.
- When it’s hot outside, close your blinds and drapes during the day to help keep the heat out.
Liberty also offers free home energy audits to its customers. During the home energy audit, a technician visits your home and identifies ways you may be able to save more energy.? As part of this program, you will receive a free energy efficiency kit that may include free LED lightbulbs, water efficient showerheads, and other efficiency measures to help you save.

Water Efficiency
With much of the western United States continuing to face severe drought conditions, it's important to do your part in conserving water. Water is not only essential to life; it also plays a vital role in environmental and economic health.
Conserving water doesn’t require major changes to your lifestyle. In fact, taking small and simple steps to reduce your water usage today can have a lasting impact that benefits current and future generations.
Here are some easy, no- to low-cost tips to help you save water:
- Use a broom to clean your driveway, patio, or sidewalk instead of using a hose.
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
- Do not water your lawn on windy days.
- Use the excess or melted ice in your cooler from a camping trip or barbeque to water your plants.
- Did you leave a water bottle in your car and don’t want to drink the water? Your plants won’t mind, every drop counts.
In addition to these tips, Liberty offers free water efficiency workshops throughout the year to show customers different ways that they can use water more efficiently. Some of the topics covered include how to identify and fix leaks, how to harvest rainwater, irrigation basics, gardening, landscaping practices, and how to winterize your pipes.
“The workshops and programs offered by Liberty will provide you with the knowledge and techniques to save more without making major lifestyle changes,” said Sara Alloway, Water Efficiency Manager.
