The final bell has rung; class is dismissed … for the summer, at least!
With vacation/staycation plans (not to mention the temperature) heating up, we’ve got some tips to help you conserve energy and water as well as some fun activities to keep your kids entertained while their teachers get a much-deserved break.
Ways to save
Making small changes can help you conserve water and energy … which may also help save money.
- Instead of using a hose to clean your driveway, patio, or sidewalk, use a broom.
- Have leftover water in your ice chest from a backyard barbecue or float trip? Use it to water the plants around your home.
- Water your lawn in the morning or evening to reduce the amount that evaporates.
- Don’t let the water run when you’re brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or shaving.
- Invest in water efficient equipment like shower heads and faucets.
- Turn off lights and appliances when not in use.
- Weatherize your home. Sealing cracks and using weatherization strips will help keep hot air outside, where it belongs.
- During the day, close the window blinds/shades to help block the heat from the sun.
- Open your windows in the morning and evening to enjoy the cool temperatures and give your air conditioner a break.
- Speaking of air conditioners, be sure to regularly clean or change the air filters.
