Have you heard about Liberty’s Reverse Mentorship Program?

January 11, 2024

In the spirit of National Mentorship Month, we would like to highlight our Reverse Mentorship Program and share some experiences of those who participated in the program during the Fall co-op work term last year.

Unlike a traditional mentorship program, Reverse Mentorship pairs junior employees who take on the “mentor” role and senior leaders who take on the “mentee” role. The program’s objective is to provide a safe environment that enables leaders to stay connected on topics which are important to junior professionals within the organization.

Hear from some of the co-ops who participated in the Reverse Mentorship Program last work term and their key takeaways!

Participating in Liberty's Reserve Mentorship Program was insightful experience! As a Project Coordinator on the transformation team during my co-op, I had the privilege of being paired up with Stephanie Bose, the Senior Director of Corporate Communications. Before entering the program, I was eager to learn the importance of good leadership and effective team dynamics in a corporate setting.

Stephanie's guidance went beyond the technicalities of her role, emphasizing the essence of effective team

leadership. Learning from her, I gained a deep understanding of how to motivate and lead a team towards common goals. Stephanie's openness and kindness fostered a supportive environment, making it easy for me to seek guidance and share my perspective on projects.

The mentorship extended to valuable insights into the broader aspects of a successful career. Stephanie generously shared her experiences, offering practical advice on navigating workplace challenges. This holistic approach significantly contributed to my professional development.

Reflecting on my time in the program, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone as experienced and genuinely supportive as Stephanie. Liberty's Reserve Mentorship Program has been a crucial steppingstone in my journey, equipping me with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the corporate world. I am confident that the lessons learned, and the mentorship received will have a lasting impact on my career.

A huge thank you to Stephanie and Liberty's HR team for arranging such a fantastic opportunity for co-op students!

It was an amazing experience to have participated in the reverse mentorship program. I developed and put into practice new skills and having the opportunity to meet and mentor leaders of the company was definitely an incredible journey. We were able to exchange ideas, perspectives and had enriching conversations. It is a program that helps you grow professionally and personally! and above all it allows you to expand your network and meet industry leaders.

As a co-op student at Liberty this past few months, participating in the Reverse Mentorship Program has been a wonderful experience for me. I had the chance to engage in meaningful dialogues with my mentor, Mark Murray, whose advice on navigating the working world and shaping my career path has been instrumental. Our conversations have always flowed effortlessly due to our shared interests and views, and I was able to learn so much.

Before joining the program, I had a more traditional

view of mentorship, but the Reverse Mentorship Program has shattered those preconceptions. Through this program, not only was I able to talk and connect with a seasoned professional, but I got the unique chance to share my own experiences as a Gen Z employee and also gain invaluable insights. Through thoughtful conversations, I learned to contextualize my experiences and I also got to see how these discussions contribute to a workplace.

I gained a deeper understanding of the intricacies of workplace dynamics and professional relationships. The exchange of knowledge has not only enhanced my professional growth but has also hopefully helped foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment. I am very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from this program.
