What happens when two farms and one natural gas company work together? You get a Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility with benefits for customers, the environment, and the dairy farms!
Liberty New York Gas entered into an interconnect agreement with Neighborhood RNG, LLC, which is comprised of PAPAS Dairy, LLC in North Bangor and Carsada Dairy, LLC in Malone.

This means that Liberty, working with Berq RNG, is developing an RNG facility where methane gas will be measured at one central injection site before being introduced into the Liberty system. The new facility is expected to be complete in January 2026.
Like our other RNG facilities, Liberty will also send natural gas back to both farms, making this interconnection beneficial to all parties.
Producing renewable natural gas sounds simple, but there is a lot that goes into it. Cow manure is a guarantee on a dairy farm, so procurement is easy. However, from there, RNG facilities capture methane gas from the decomposition of the cow manure, scrub the gas to remove the harmful constituents, and send it to Liberty to be injected into our system for distribution to customers.
This results in fewer greenhouse gases and allows our customers to continue using natural gas for heating and cooking while reducing emissions and helping the environment.
“Adding our sixth RNG facility feels like planting another tree in the neighborhood. It’s good for the air, good for the community, and good for our customers who get cleaner energy without changing a thing,” said New York Gas President, Mark Murray. “We are proud to work with local farms to bring renewable energy to our customers.”
