Liberty puts the “giving” in Thanksgiving for our customers

“Operation Gobble” provides thousands of turkeys for local families

For some, it may be hard to imagine a Thanksgiving meal without a turkey.  But for many, it is a reality that does not just occur on Thanksgiving, as they may struggle with hunger throughout the year.

This is one of the many reasons why Liberty jumps at the opportunity to help provide turkeys and other food staples to those who find themselves struggling to make ends meet.

Liberty has helped to give out over 300,000 turkeys over the past 30 years through “Operation Gobble.” Operation Gobble works to provide turkeys to local families who otherwise might not have a turkey as part of their Thanksgiving meal.  It’s an annual event that Liberty employees look forward to being a part of every year.

Gabe Gomez, Operations Manager for Liberty, has been assisting with Operation Gobble since 2008.  “Knowing Liberty can help by giving a family a turkey so they can have a meal brings me great joy,” said Gabe. “Liberty really cares about the communities we serve, and giving back is simply the ‘Liberty Way.’”

Liberty has been distributing turkeys to customers in need since 1990. What started as a simple turkey distribution every year has since evolved into Operation Gobble, an outreach program coordinated by the CWA and water utilities with local and state officials, non-profits, food banks, and faith-based organizations to help combat hunger in California.

“With food insecurity on the rise as well as the cost of food going up, Liberty is proud to continue its long-standing tradition of participating in Operation Gobble. Helping families in need during the holidays is part of our commitment to making a positive impact on the communities where we live, work, and have the privilege of serving,” said Ed Jackson, California President at Liberty.

Working with other organizations and water utilities is essential to creating a successful event. Over the past few years, Liberty has worked with San Gabriel Valley Water Company to help coordinate these events. “It’s a pleasure to work with Liberty during a time of uncertainty for many families. Thanksgiving is a time to give back to those in need and bring cheer to many that may be without,” said Leo Barrera, Customer Service Manager at San Gabriel Valley Water Company.

Liberty is also honored to collaborate with local and elected officials, including California State Senator Bob Archuleta, Assembly Member Lisa Calderon, and Assembly Member Blanco Pacheco. “Thank you so much to San Gabriel Valley Water and Liberty for working with us to give away over 100 turkeys.  We are going to make a lot of families happy, all because of them,” said Senator Bob Archuleta.
