Liberty – New York Gas continues to invest in innovative infrastructure through the expansion of renewable natural gas (RNG) across its system. Over the last three years, Liberty has added five RNG facilities, with two additional sites expected to come online before the end of 2026. Once complete, approximately 15% of Liberty’s New York gas distribution system will consist of RNG. These facilities partner with local dairy farms to capture methane naturally released from cow manure through anaerobic digesters. The gas is then cleaned and processed to pipeline-quality standards before being injected directly into Liberty’s natural gas system.

In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting local agriculture, RNG investments are delivering direct benefits to customers. During the 2025–2026 winter season, Liberty customers benefited from approximately a 5% reduction in natural gas costs due in part to RNG supply. In fact, without RNG resources, customers would have paid more than $1.12 per MMBtu higher for natural gas throughout the winter.

By the end of 2026, Liberty expects to have seven RNG facilities online, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable, reliable, and cost-effective energy infrastructure.
