Liberty’s focus on customers and community has earned the company two awards. For the second consecutive year, Liberty has received the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Recovery Award for restoration efforts associated with Winter Storm Tormund. Liberty was also one of the winners of the 2024 Nicholas Humber Award for Outstanding Collaboration for contributions in the redevelopment of Tuscan Village.

Keeping Our Community Safe in the Storm

Winter Storm Tormund reared its ugly head in April 2024, bringing heavy, wet snow and strong winds that knocked out power to 7,600 Liberty customers. With 91 wires down, 18 broken utility poles, and 92 trees/branches needing to be removed from wires, Liberty teams still managed to restore power to 99 percent of customers within 72 hours, despite outages across the state that led to scarcity of mutual aid assistance.

“The team at Liberty trains, practices, and prepares all year long for these types of events,” said Neil Proudman, President – Liberty NH. “Receiving an EEI award for two consecutive years reinforces the professionalism and dedication that our employees show every single day to make sure we are prepared for whatever comes our way.”

According to EEI, the Emergency Recovery Award recognizes companies that put forth outstanding efforts to restore service promptly to the public following a storm or natural disaster.

Community Collaboration at Its Finest

Liberty’s commitment to providing reliable service and a modernized electric distribution system for the communities it serves, today and for generations to come, was behind the recognition from the Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC-NE).

The organization named Tuscan Village as the winner of the 2024 Nicholas Humber Award for Outstanding Collaboration. Liberty shares this honor with 19 companies/municipal organizations, all recognized for their commitment to the project.

“When you are planning a project as large as Tuscan Village, infrastructure is very important, and electricity is one of the most important components in that infrastructure,” said Joe Faro, CEO of Tuscan brands. “Liberty was extremely collaborative.”

A project of this magnitude would not be successful without the skills, mindset, and creativity displayed by this project team, and Liberty was proud to play an integral part in it. The redevelopment of Tuscan Village was the largest project Liberty has been involved with and will provide benefits to customers beyond Tuscan Village.

“This project was aimed at improving reliability, modernization of the grid, and providing the capacity for future growth,” said Proudman. “We are proud of the contributions we made to this community enhancement.”
