Cultivating a Greener and More Beautiful Future
At Liberty, we dig deep to enhance the communities we serve through sustainability and beauty.
Liberty's employee Garden Club at New York Water created a native garden in cooperation with the Merrick Chamber of Commerce. Using a deserted space that was just dirt and weeds, the team created a native garden filled with environmentally friendly plants that don’t need much water and also provide a food source for butterflies, bees, birds, and other animals. It is filled with plant varieties such as Yarrow “Strawberry Seduction” Cultivar, Deertongue, Moss Phlox “Emerald Blue” Cultivar, and New York Ironweed.
Located in the center of town, the garden also adds beauty to the area, flowers to enjoy while heading to the train or grabbing a cup of coffee at the corner shop. Coming soon to the garden will be QR codes that community members can scan to learn more about the plants and how they can create their own native gardens.
Liberty’s Garden Committee in Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada), cultivated a diverse range of plants in their garden. The 2023 harvest included tomatoes, broccoli, brussels sprouts and more. In the past, they’ve also grown peas, peppers, and strawberries.
The garden also includes a rainwater collection tank and composter. They also recently doubled the amount of garden space by adding a new bed and installed an archway for climbing plants.
We also take pride in protecting, preserving, and supporting our communities through events and initiatives like town clean-ups.
Three days, three cities, 12 hours, and 17 Liberty employees recently took to the streets of southern Massachusetts to keep our communities clean. In honor of Earth Day, the group participated in clean-up events in Westport, at Industrial Park in Fall River, and a beach clean-up in Swansea. The group, along with other volunteers and Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan, collected 30 bags of trash and debris. With each bag weighing eight pounds, that equates to 240 pounds of litter being removed from the communities.
Liberty employees in New Brunswick celebrated Earth Day this year by spending time in St. John’s beautiful Rockwood Park. It was a gorgeous day to bag up litter and spruce up this amazing public space.
